Troy Miller zeroed in on me on my first day as a transfer student.
It all started because I'd prepared welcome gifts for my new classmates.
Just some homemade pastries, packed in little bags Mom and I had carefully chosen.
One moment, Troy was smiling as he took the bag from my hand, politely thanking me.
The next, as soon as the teacher left, he grabbed my hair and dragged me into the boys' bathroom.
A group of boys followed him, blocking the view of onlookers outside the door.
Troy ground my hand into the floor with his foot, his eyes fierce and menacing.
'Leah Parker, right? Besides baking, what other tricks do you know? Did your mom send you to those special classes too? You came to Riverbend High just to snag a rich husband, didn't you?
'You're pretty enough, I guess. So tell me, who've you got your eye on? I'll do you a favor and call him in right now to seal the deal.'
The crowd burst into raucous laughter, with someone even shouting, 'T-Man, strip her clothes off and let's see if she's got a good body!'
